We are finally sending Flat Stanley back to NYC. He enjoyed Atlanta very much. Here is a photo of Jack's friend, Nelson, holding Stanley in front of the old Coca-cola general store. Stanley had a few cokes in Atlanta but mostly he drank Smartwater, another Coke product. It's healthier. Love, Nelson Ray Mendels 5k The Atlanta International School.

Patrick's Flat Stanley in Wisconsin
Hi Patrick Quan and 3rd graders,
Wow, I was lucky. I got mailed to Wisconsin in the Midwest Region of the U.S. I learned that Wisconsin has lots of cool features and history. Let me tell you some of the things that I learned.
Right now, it's spring in Wisconsin, and it was pretty rainy, but daffodils and tulips were starting to pop through the dirt. Next is summer, then fall, and finally winter when I hear they sometimes get 18 inches of snow in a day! Yikes!
30,000 years ago, glaciers covered two-thirds of Wisconsin. The glacier smashed, scraped or buried almost everything in its path. Its grinding movement, along with the water that rushed from it as it melted, created thousands of lakes and rivers, gently rolling hills and exotic rock formations like the Wisconsin Dells. It has large forests, small farmsteads, winding rivers and 15,000 lakes. Crops.....cranberries are a popular crop here, along with corn, wheat, and cherries. Wisconsin is known as American's Dairyland. Also, cheesemakers here make 300 different varieties of cheese, and in the spring, people tap maple trees so they can make maple syrup. I visited mostly in the southeast part of Wisconsin. The eastern side of Wisconsin is bordered by Lake Michigan, one of the “great lakes”. Wow, that's a lot of water.
Wisconsin has been home to many Native American cultures including the Ojibwe, Ho-Chunk, Sioux, and Potawatomi. The Ringling family circus got its start in Wisconsin in 1884. It kept growing and became known as the “Greatest Show on Earth”.
Wisconsin has some awesome industries, too. Kimberly & Clark Company in Neenah made the world's first facial tissue. Harley Davidson was my favorite stop. Vroom, vroom, don't worry, I wore my helmet on my test ride. I also went to the Milwaukee Zoo. People say it is one of the best in the nation, and was one of the first zoos to do away with small cages, and let the animals roam freely. I really wanted to swim with the penguins, but then you would have had to iron me.
Today is opening day at Miller Park where the Milwaukee Brewers play. Patrick, I know you have been to that ballpark, and that your dad grew up in Wisconsin. But did you know that this year they have a brand new scoreboard. It's GIGANTIC! You can see it from all over the stadium. Maybe your class has heard of our football team too. The Green Bay Packers play at Lambeau Field and were the Super Bowl winners this year. Go Pack!
By the way, Earth day is coming up on April 22. Wisconsin's Senator Gaylord Nelson wanted people to understand that we needed to take better care of the planet, so in 1970 he started “Earth Day”.
All I can say is Wisconsin is full of friendly people, great food, lots of recreation, and I can't wait to come back.
See you soon,
Flat Stanley & his pal, Bill Luedke (from Hales Corners, WI)

Flat Stanley in Sarasota, FL
FLAT STANLEY visited Alex's grandfather, Don Markstein, in Sarasota, FL, and we had a great time. Flat Stanley wanted to tell the 3rd grade class about his visit and about this state of Florida, but grandpa tried using the web site and failed, 'cause he is not technologically proficient, and Flat Stanley could not help him. So here's the story in this e-mail.
1. We went to the beach on the West Coast of Florida. The beach was not on the Atlantic ocean as it is on the East Coast of Florida. Rather, the beach here in Sarasota is on the Gulf of Mexico. Florida is a long thin state at the very bottom of the East Coast (the right hand side of the United States). Flat Stanley looked at a map of Florida and he said, "it looks like a banana." Bananas are yellow, and the bright sun in Florida is very yellow!
While you third graders at The Town School were having snow, any one visiting Florida could go for a swim. The day that Flat Stanley went swimming, it was snowing a whole lot in New York City, but the water in the Gulf in Florida was 80 degrees (Fahrenheit).
Flat Stanley and Grandpa walked the beach and Flat Stanley kept letting the sand run through his fingers and he picked up a lot of shells to show you. Unfortunately, you can only send words and pictures by e-mail, but not sand and shells or other physical objects. Grandpa made Flat Stanley throw the sand back on the beach and the shells back into the Gulf, where some sea creatures will crawl in them and make the shells their home for a while.
2. Flat Stanley was very lucky to be in Sarasota in the winter, because the famous Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus, and some other circuses, make their winter home here. As a matter of fact, there is such a lot of interest in the circus in Sarasota, Florida that high school students have the chance to elect physical education in the school gym or at the circus tent, where they learn to perform circus acts, even walking on the high wire or swinging thru the air and catching another performer by the hands as that guy or girl lets go of their swing coming from the other side high up above the ground in the tent. Flat Stanley kept busy looking at the circus activity in all three rings, where all sorts of different act performed simultaneously in each ring.
Flat Stanley did a lot more than spend time on the beach and at the circus, but he told Grandpa that he will always think of Florida as the state where there are wonderful beaches and great circuses. That is why a lot of retired New Yorkers decide to move to Florida in their retirement years.
Bye,
Grandpa Donald and
Flat Stanley
Caroline's Flat Stanley in Chicago, IL
Here are some pictures we took of Flat Stanley. He went across the Chicago River after it was turned green for St Patrick's Day (the photos are poor because they wouldn't let us stop). He is shown with an alley - maybe this is interesting because there aren't any alley's in New York. Flat Stanley is also pictured with the Sears Towel ( tallest building on North American continent), the Field Museum of Natural History, Soldier's Field and the Shedd Aquarium
These are photos are of Flat Stanley and the green Chicago River. The other photos are in front of the Field Museum of Natural History.
